Seven Deadly Sins

PRIDE : "The proud peacock ruffles its royal feathers"

Internationally renowned jewelry designer  Stephen Webster  has done it again.
This time with a set of cocktail rings representing the seven deadly sins;
Pride, Greed, Envy, Wrath, Lust, Gluttony and Sloth.
The set was created a couple of years back, but I just came across them the other day!
Their prices range from £15,000 to £98,000 and there are only 7 editions of each ring.
AKA the chances of me getting one are...... let's say "slim".

These creations are far too beautiful to be considered ordinary dining-room additions.
He managed to build a completely unique look for each one of the sins -- creatively utilizing specific color schemes and symbols in order to represent each sin accurately.

ENVY : "The green eye of envy is all seeing"

GLUTTONY : "In its gaping glory the gargantuan mouth remains unsatisfied"

GREED : "For the love of money is the root of all evil"

LUST : "A desire that burns, inciting desperate hands to grasp gratuitously"

SLOTH : "A plush pink pillow of passivity absorbs wasted talents and gifts"

WRATH : "Red rage is offered in a guise by the hand that provokes the spark"

Photo Booth

My very first "product review"
I encourage everyone to get the INCREDIBOOTH app on their iphone/ipods/ipads.
Super fun, my friends and I had a ball taking millions of photos.

It is quite annoying that they don't preview each style, but I guess it's kind of fun to
be surprised with the different effects.

You got the vintage, the black and white, the color.
It's fun.
Trust.

This and That

ROCK PILLOWS

I recently started a pinterest and have been finding some really cool things on it.
I feel like I haven't been uploading too many posts on product design or digital art (as I used to).
I seem to be focusing more on fashion or beauty, so let me take a break and hit up some of the cool things that I've found!

Heat-conducting Ice-Cream Spoons. Easier to scoop!!

Never lose your tea bag again! (I need this.)

Great design for a Coat Hanger! (DIY?)

London Calling

Apparently this year's Olympics is the year of amazing graphic designs.
Remember the blog-post on the typography ad-campaign by Charis Tsevis?
Amazing work.

And now the tickets are finally out, and I'm loving the design!
Clean lines, great colors. I especially like the opening ceremony one--

I like this year's a lot more than last year's Beijing 2008 Olympic Tickets...

                  Wouldn't you agree??

Stay in tune during the Olympics.
I'm excited to see the opening ceremony;
I don't think they can surpass the Beijing one for that though!

Upcycled iMac Aquariums

"The story behind these repurposed machines is that one day at work, Jake Harms was asked to throw out an old G3 iMac but couldn’t bear to do it. So, he took it home with hope of finding a new purpose for the colorful, but broken, computer. And did he ever! After seeing a photo of an iMac Aquarium, Harms exactly knew what he wanted to do."
After many popular requests, Harms also created the iMacquarium Kits.  The aquariums are "build yourself" kits with instructions, which allows the customer to create their own original design.
 So.  Cool.
I. Want.

Vinyl Record Faces

"Italians Angelo Bramanti and Giuseppe Siracusa of L017 take waste materials or recycled objects and create art out of them. They find the "charm" in things that have been "abandoned, thrown away, discarded, forgotten or intentionally removed." This stop-you-in-your-track piece is made up of five overlapping vinyl records that have each been shaped on one side to create distinct heads. Fantastic!"

Advertising Now

We talked about efficient advertising in class today.  Creating useful and classy websites, business cards, and resumes etc.  The standard for design in the corporate world is very high now, especially with the fact that almost anyone who owns a company has the means to create a good design.  If they don't the audience can only assume they are lacking, lazy and not sufficient.  For instance, the last time you looked for something online --> did the website alter your view on the product?  It did for me.

I went to the hospital for my bum knee (Dancer-girl-problems) a few weeks ago, and to find the best hospital, I browsed through a couple of websites of hospitals near me.  I found two or three.  And I immediately decided on one.  The other two websites were bland, unofficial, and confusing.  As a result, I felt that their services might be the same way.  Any child could make a good website now, what's stopping a hospital from having one??

Here are some photos of great business cards -- some sent to me from my mum.  Now these people know how to advertise their work!
