Just a spoonful.

If you have never heard of Kina Grannis; You're Welcome.
Her sweet sweet voice melts like a spoonful of honey on your tongue.
This is just one of her may covers on youtube, so be sure to check the rest out!
Something about her simplicity, tone, mood... basically everything... just reels me into her work.
She is not only talented, but incredibly sweet -- she deserves all the recognition in the world.

Tonight you belong to me

Okay.  So I usually don't post "cute" videos and "fad" youtube clips onto this blog.
But this video is an exception, due to the fact that I have pressed the replay button probably 89 times in the last two weeks.

This blog has become a treasure chest of things that I find beautiful, and this deserves to be on here.  God bless this 親子.

Enjoy The Lennon Sister's "Tonight You Belong To Me"
Covered by Benjamin J. Ames and his 4 year old daughter.

Real Live Flesh

Tune-Yards: Real Live Flesh
Taken from the Tune-Yards video session
Recorded at Platts Eyot for 4AD Sessions
'Real Live Flesh' is taken from the expanded release of their debut album, Bird-Brains

After being in the queer-burlesque performance I could not get this song out of my head.
Beautiful and eerie.
On repeat.

Fall Break 2012

For this year's fall break the girls and I will finally be hitting up the infamous city of Nevada.

Excited?     Yes.
Nervous?      Yes.

Sick?      Yes.....  :(

But I will fight through my cold and make the most of it.
Enjoy "Life of the Party" as a shining example of what will be running through my head as I walk through every bar/casino/club in vegas.

Street Corner Jams

Zaz is a French singer who released her first album in 2010 and immediately became a star.
I'm a little obsessed with her quirky voice.

She has a casual swag about her -- which is displayed in this video perfectly.
Casually singing on a street corner with two musicians, she owns her song as if she's just telling a story.

One of the few albums I've bought as a whole.

I encourage you to do the same.

Chancellor Warhol

“She’s like, ‘I don’t even do light skin’

That’s cool. Turn off the lights then.”

--------------

Striking high on my top performances from Lollapalooza 2012,  Chancellor Warhol was a serious delight.  Not only was he super damn cute, but he was an AMAZING performer.
Low-key, he performed at the BMI stage which was a little out of the way. A much smaller venue than the rest, but that just made it even better for us.  I was literally up against the rail staring at him.

Can't wait to follow him as he shoots up in the music industry.

Call your girlfriend.

This song recently blew up because of a cover by two little girls: Lennon and Maisy Stella.
I was able to find the original, and another beautiful cover of the song.
Here are all three videos.

Enjoy.
Discuss.
Compare.

For one of THOSE days...

(Hibi no Neiro) MV

This music video was shot for Sour's 'Hibi no Neiro' (Tone of everyday) from their first mini album 'Water Flavor EP'. The cast were selected from the actual Sour fan base, from many countries around the world. Each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam.
Director: Who-fu (Magico + Masayoshi Nakamura ) , Hal & Masa
SOUR official site: sour-web.com
2009 Zealot Co.,ltd / Neutral Nine Records

I can't imagine how long it took them to arrange/shoot this.
Just a happy-inducing music video.

Somebody that I used to know II

Remember the Gotye video I blogged about recently?
Well here is a stunning cover...
Some say that this cover is the reason the song got famous in the first place!

I'd believe it.

Rolling in the Deep

Of course I've heard this song many times, but last night I randomly watched the music video.
I am truly obsessed.  The vibrating glasses of water, the dancer in the sand(?)salt(?)
Adele sitting and singing her bloody heart out...
I can't wait to hear a cover by KRISTEN KAGEI (shoutout to the most amazing singer I know)
Of course we shall make a music video together, and I'll be the one mucking about in the dust.

Les Choristes (2004)

I'm absolutely infatuated with Jean-Baptiste Maunier.  I watched this movie in 2004, right after it came out and I've been obsessed with it since.  One of the few movies that I actually own the CD to the soundtrack.  Absolutely beautiful singing, a sweet story, and of course I love anything French so that's a huge plus!  Watch it without it being dubbed please -- use subtitles :)

Expialidocious

I just recently watched Mary Poppins again - brought back a ton of memories from my childhood.  Quite a confusing movie isn't it...  Slightly scary in some bits.  It reminded me of this video I saw back in highschool.  This youtube user is talented at mixing together music from films -- really incredible stuff. Check out all of his songs!!

Paul Dateh & Ken Belcher

Paul Dateh and Ken Belcher came to Pitzer College to perform for "One Beat For Japan" -- a benefit concert to raise money and awareness for the earthquake in Japan.  There were dance performances, songs, and music.  Paul was definitely my favorite act of the night.  He is a ridiculously talented violinist, and on top of that a jaw-droppingly amazing singer.  Check him out!!

Paul Dateh, award winning songwriter & hip hop violinist with Guitarist Ken Belcher
"Originally, Paul Dateh was only supposed to be a violinist. Beginning his violin studies at the age of four, it seemed that Dateh’s future in the classical industry was set in stone. But, on his first day at The University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Dateh suddenly dropped his major in Violin Performance and instead enrolled in the Jazz Studies Vocal program instead. The move shocked his colleagues as it was hard to understand why anyone would walk away from fourteen years of classical training to begin learning an entirely new musical discipline. But, Dateh knew that he wanted to be more than just a classical instrumentalist; his goal was to become a musician, in every possible way.  Since first appearing on the music scene three years ago, singer and violinist Paul Dateh has gone on to garner millions of views on the web as well as national exposure on television and in print. Dateh has since released two records: a self-titled record issued in January of 2009, and “The Good Life” – a collaborative EP with guitarist Ken Belcher. In 2010, Dateh scored his first short film (The LXD: Chapter 10 – I Seen a Man) distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment."

Born This Way

Twins are awesome.  They're are two of the same person!!  But they're different!! (Trippy).  Everyone goes through a phase in their life where they think "Darn, I wish I had a twin."  So I'm sure everyone's heard of the old rumor "There are 3 people in the world who look EXACTLY like you, but the chances of you meeting them are extremely slim."  Well what if you do meet them??

Meet youtube sensations Alyssa Bernal and Megan Nicole.  I've been following Alyssa Bernal since her very first singing videos, and have been obsessed since.  Megan Nicole was first introduced to me through her "Love the Way You Lie - cover" with Tyler Ward.  At first the similarities aren't too noticeable.  Until users began commenting on their videos, urging them to meet.  And so they did.  Here they are for the first time together -- long lost non-biological twins singing Born This Way by Lady Gaga.

                "この世界の中で三人自分に似てる人がいる." Youtubeで見つけた双子に見える友達!その上、二人とも歌が上手。。自分の"双子"を見つけたらびっくりしちゃう!何回もみても、この二人の区別ができない!!

I still can't get over how similar they look!! Eerie.  To make me the creepy feeling go away-- here are some adorable newborn twin photos!!

Nomnomnom.

ZZZ...
