WISF

"This blog is about fashion and everything that inspires it, such as art, design, nature, photography & many more. I like to pick beautiful fashion related pictures and match them with photos that I find related to them for different reasons, for instance colours, shapes, sensations, concept."

This blog started by Italian art-student Bianca Luini has been one of my favorite escapes in the past few weeks.  Luini finds beautiful fashion-related photographs and pairs them with (shockingly compatible) photographs of anything and everything in the world.  Whether it be a piece of nature, a man made building or a stray object, she successfully finds two shots that work delightfully well together to create a single comprehensive piece.

Wrapped up.

I will be the first to admit that I've been lazy with my blog posts by posting videos (still high quality work) instead of full collections of photos.  Here is my apology in the form of Ukrainian photographer Vadim Stein

Stunning.

Yanina

Yanina Couture Fall/Winter 2013-14 Show
Paris Couture Fashion Week

"PARIS - Yulia Yanina incorporated a leaf motif in her Fall 2013 Paris Couture Fashion Week collection, which was present in a bulk of the looks. She also used fur embellishments and ethnic headgear that came off as a cloche-like style statement on top of her ladylike pencil skirts, sculpted peplum waists, and houndstooth, which rounded off in a Russian 40s ambiance."

I was sitting in a small cafe in Florence, Italy when I look up at their mini-tv screen to see the Paris Fashion show streaming.  This line caught my eye above all the rest.
The wonderful use of the leaf-structure.
Simple, cool, stylish.

The Great Gatsby

Finally was able to watch this marvelous film.
That's right -- I LOVED IT.

I was super skeptical since I absolutely hated the Romeo + Juliet (1996) film and I was dreading that this classic book would also be ruined with the touch of the modern devil's trident.

Fortunately the film was completed with superb taste, class and just enough flair.

The way the eye was drawn in through the movement of the camera (Moulin Rouge! anyone?) and the sparkle and glitz of it all WITHOUT losing the classiness of the story.

And the music.
Same idea but backwards.  Taking modern songs and twisting them to fit the 1920s flappers era.
Bought the Deluxe Edition as soon as I got home.

I am just so so happy!
I must say though, I don't know if I will like
watching it on my computer screen.. I think the
large theater allowed the film to come alive and
I don't know if that can translate on a smaller screen.

But I must say, Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan were phenomenal along with Elizabeth Debicki (who is she!?), Isla Fisher (small role but lasting impression), Tobey Maguire (will always be spiderman to me...), and Joel Edgerton.

A touch of Italian

About a year ago LACMA had an exhibition by fashion designers (and sisters)
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte.

"Rodarte: Fra Angelico Collection shows ten extraordinary gowns inspired by frescoes (mural paintings on walls or ceilings) painted by the early Italian Renaissance artist, Fra Angelico, and as well as the Baroque sculpture, Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, by Gian Lorenzo Bernini."

How utterly beautiful are these?

UNDERWATER SERIES 13 -- Joel Janse van Vuuren

Joel Janse van Vuuren, born in Durban in 1984 is a fashion-designer.
He is currently based in Johannesburg where he is developing his own brand.
His designs reflect his exploration of beauty, fashion and 21st century."

This entire collection/advertisement reminds me of Alix Malka's in Fashionably Floating
This is a great way to show-case your work.
Granted, you can't see much of the dress itself; but it adds a flair to his website, and catches the audiences' attention.  The colors underwater are gorgeous, and of course he was aware that the fabric would look effortless and weightless.

The deep black in the background is what makes the entire series.
